CAI only UK charity to be shortlisted for US$1M Rio Tinto Prize for Sustainability

CAI is the only UK charity to be short listed for the US$1M Rio Tinto Prize for Sustainability 2008, which is awarded annually by an International Adjudication Panel of distinguished sustainability experts

Dr John Bridson, CAI Chairman, said: "The honour of being shortlisted acknowledges the work being done by CAI in meeting the sustainable development challenges being faced in so many of the poorest countries throughout the world."

He added: "We are delighted to be short listed for this Prize for Sustainability. Being short listed for the Prize provides our organisation with important visibility. We look forward to the announcement of the winner in June this year."

The global US$1M Rio Tinto Prize for Sustainability is open to all not-for-profit, civil society and non-government organisations working to advance the goals of economic, environmental and social sustainability.

CAI charity fundraising evening

In October CAI held a successful charity evening at which we raised just under £1,000. The evening comprised an auction and lovely meal provided by New College Nottingham’s Adams Restaurant.

CAI-Pakistan awarded Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy - PCP's certification

We are pleased to inform that CAI-Pakistan awarded Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy - PCP's certification. The objective of the certification is to enhance CAI's credibility as a non-profit organisation (NPO), increasing its capacity to access philanthropic assistance, and helping in diversifying its resource base and facilitating in obtaining tax exemptions from the Government of Pakistan. Moreover, CAI's profile will be included in the “Gateway to Giving”- directory of certified NPOs, the first of its kind in Pakistan. The profile (also placed at PCP web site) includes a brief history of the CAI, major programme activities, achievements and information that projects CAI as a credible and effective partner.

The APLS CD Rom has now been produced and is on sale through BMJ Books for £28.50. Members can receive this free through CAI by telephoning +44 (0)115 950 6662.

Money raised from the sale of the CD Rom is being put to use, training healthcare workers in Emergency Maternal and Child Healthcare - EMCH. The programme has been running for 2 years in Pakistan.

The International Child Health Care Manual and the Pocket Emergency Care Book, both produced by CAI, are both on sale through BMJ Books and TALC for overseas sales.
